Membrane proteins are targets of choice for therapeutic research and immunotherapy. The study of their structures and interactions with the ligands such as therapeutic antibodies is a key element in the characterization of new candidates for example.

Eucaryotics cells are transfected with the gene of interest cloned in an expression vector. Vesicles, mesuring from 40 to 100 nm, are purified and analysed to check their decorating rate. They are then conditionned and sent to the project leader.
Some methods permit to purify membranes proteins by extracting them from the membranes in which they are embedded thanks to the use of detergents. Those detergents weaken their stability and often lead to their partial or even total inactivation. Membranes proteins embedded in the vesicles produced by NabGen Technology are very stable and can be stored for several months at 4°C. In addition, they don’t need the use of any detergents and therefore remain functional. Their use allows to mimick the biochemical complexity of a true biological membrane. Indeed, a lipid bilayer or viral envelopp can sometimes take specific conformations according to the steric hindrance which depends on the density and the way proteins gather.
